No Snow but Plenty to Do in San Diego during Winter

If you’re looking for a place to escape the cold this winter, look no further than beautiful San Diego. While the weather might be a little chilly for a swim at the beach, there’s still plenty to do in the San Diego area during the winter. The team at Bluewater Vacation Homes is excited to help you plan your next vacation to San Diego. To help you prepare for your winter vacation to San Diego, we’ve put together a guide of some of the best things to do in the area during the winter.

Go Whale Watching

Many travelers are unaware that they have an opportunity to see whales in San Diego. From December through April, thousands of gray whales migrate from Alaska to the warm waters of Baja, Mexico. You can take in these majestic creatures up close and personal with a San Diego whale watching tour. Alternatively, you’ll also have opportunities to spot them from the shore; Cabrillo National Monument is a prime location for whale watching in San Diego.

Explore San Diego’s Many Hiking Trails

In the winter months, high temperatures in San Diego are typically in the mid-60s. That’s plenty warm for you to get out and explore the miles and miles of beautiful hiking trails the San Diego area has to offer. Some of our favorite places to hike in San Diego include Mission Trails Regional Park, Potato Chip Rock, and Torrey Pines Natural Reserve, but there are plenty of other great trails to adventure.

Visit the San Diego Zoo

Visit one of the most famous zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo. The San Diego Zoo is far from your average zoo; it houses over 12,000 animals. Exploring the San Diego Zoo is the perfect winter activity for families; children and adults will both enjoy the many immersive exhibits here. Keep your eyes peeled; you’ll probably see some of the rarest animals on Earth, creatures you likely won’t see anywhere else.

Enjoy the Area’s Finest Wines

Though San Diego is far south of Napa Valley, the area still has a bustling wine scene. Locals and tourists alike flock to San Diego’s elegant and delicious wineries. There are over a dozen wineries nearby. Perhaps the area’s most well-known winery is Bernardo Winery, the oldest operating winery in Southern California. Here, you’ll enjoy sampling wine, eating tasty food, and browsing the many shops located on-site.
