The main commercial district in Pacific Beach is called the Garnet Strip. You’ll find beach boutiques, surf shops, restaurants, dessert spots, lively nightspots, sports bars, regular bars, groceries and more!
Local tip: In the daytime, you can find something for everyone, but at night and on the weekends, the bars are where it’s at for young adults.
TOURMALINE SURFING PARK
This surfing-only beach in North Pacific Beach is ideal for beginners, longboarders, windsurfers and kite surfers. Watch the surfers or try your luck catching a wave. Waves tend to be slower here with the perfect conditions to learn to stand or try a new trick.
CRYSTAL PIER
Walk out to the end of the pier and see coastal San Diego from a whole new perspective. You’ll be right next to the surfers as they shred the surf. Crystal Pier features the historic cottages of the Crystal Pier Hotel built in the 1930 and this wooden pier is famous as a top fishing spot. Hook barred surfperch, corbina, halibut and shovelnose guitarfish, as well as lobster.

BEACH BOARDWALK
The Pacific Beach Boardwalk is a concrete walkway that spans about 3.5 miles from North Pacific Beach to South Mission Beach. Go for a walk along the scenic waterfront path, grab a bite to eat, purchase a souvenir and take in the sights. Enjoy rollerblading, biking, skateboarding and running. You can rent bikes and skates at shops nearby.
Local tip: Line up at Kono’s near the pier for a tasty and decent priced breakfast and grab a table next to Crystal Pier to watch the surfers.
